Light, Matter, and the Medium
We often don’t think about light this way, but we should; light as matter. When we talk about matter we often think about the things we can about solids and the tangible, things we can touch and manipulate directly, change into something else directly from the state we find it in. We need to expand our concept of what matter is to extend to light as well, it is more than an excitation of or in the medium, it is the medium.
Conventionally, light (photons) is not considered matter in that it does not have rest mass. It doesn’t have mass but carriers energy and momentum which makes light capable of transferring energy and interacting with matter. So from the standard view light has energy and momentum but no rest mass and is an excitation of the electromagnetic field.
But how can light be a carrier of energy if it were not matter? The sole purpose of matter is the transfer of energy; light is that dynamic in action. The transfer of energy via the simplest form of the medium; visible light is the medium in motion.
Reinterpreting light as matter we have to consider the implications for objects such as Stars. If light is a material then what is the nature of solar wind? Solar wind or radiation is the body of the sun itself, pieces of it leaking out; small scale solar discharge. When light hits an objects it is more than energy transfer, it is material contact, an exchange between medium states. Light carries mass because it is matter in a high-frequency, traveling configuration. All radiative process are matter-transformation, not a separate energy phenomena.
As stated before in my cosmology, Black Holes are recycling engines for matter and energy. We say beyond their event horizon they don’t allow light to escape, but in this reinterpretation it is simply matter in all its forms which cannot escape. Black holes draw in and recycle what Stars leak out.
Stars leak their substance into space as plasma, electromagnetic fields, and light, all of which are matter; are the medium, Space-Time, the Aether. Light is not an immaterial wave it is a star’s material essence organized as perturbations in and of the medium. Overtime this dispersed solar material travels, interacts, forms planets, life, and eventually dissipates or coalesces again. When black holes take in material they recycle it and eject the physical “debris” at their poles, and the material essence is radiated back into the greater cosmos as Hawking Radiation. Radiation being the byproduct of matter, space-time, being unstructured, unmade. This is the opposite of the constructive process which results in large amounts of energy discharge.
A black hole is the return point, an attractor which reclaims the spilled medium of stars, their spilled seed as stars are the Seeds of Life.
I’ve stated in previous posts that gravity is inherent to the cosmos, it is the medium in which all celestial bodies find themselves floating; a name or term for the medium in motion. If light is an excitation of the medium, then light is gravity made visible; the medium, space-time, aether made visible. We’ve always observed the effects of the phenomena we call gravity but it never occurred to us that we’ve always been able to see it. With eyes to see we can come to realize that all of space is not dark void. It is a well lit, packed full of light.
This further reinforces my understanding that the medium itself, Space-Time is inherently curved. But more than curved, the cosmos is inherently geometric. Relativity as I’ve mentioned before is the study of this geometry around an object. Not unlike water flowing around a rock in a river or ocean.
As with all my observations, they come from a top down view of the cosmos, compared to the conventional bottom up view of reality in which all the sciences make their observations and predictions.
