Interstellar, is some Tenet shit.
The movie interstellar doesn’t ever explain why blight hit the world. I believe that like the future civilization ensuring its own survival with the tesseract within Gargantua, them creating the wormhole may have had cascading effects or consequences across space time and that is what caused blight to occur. The tesseract being locked to earth and cooper also manipulating the local field could have had compounding effects. This could be why the wormhole also had to be place near Saturn. The civilization may be advanced but no one ever knows everything and thus even they are still learning about the effects and residual effects of their own actions and technology. In a way they’re like an innocent opposite to Dr. Mann, they genuinely sought to help, feeling they had to. But that help may be what inadvertently caused the catastrophe in the first place.
The film is a series of unintended and intentional mistakes and shortcomings. Humans being humans, future humans are no exception to that.
The ability to intervene is not the authority to intervene. Given the scope and reach of that future civilization, they couldn’t see their own handprints on the mechanisms of change. They knew that sometime in humanities history there was a profound shift, they could not see that it was their doing inadvertently.
The film has the paradox of the singularity and getting that information which would solve all their problems. But that itself is a paradox because if nothing can escape, how do you get in to build, create and manipulate? The future civilization would have to already know about gravity before entering the black hole and the film says this knowledge came from them to us.
My point is, the information that’s been so important has always been accessible without the need to go inside the black hole. Because gravity exists outside of it. If we turn to my cosmology, I had no need to go inside a black hole to understand it.
The loop in the film is just a series of compounding tragedies. Expressed in Dr. Mann, the tendency to think too highly of one’s own abilities. NASA having to limit their abilities by limiting their public exposure and thus mind power they can throw at the problem. The compartmentalization of need to know information, no matter how dire for the fear people cannot handle it. But if they cannot handle dire information it’s because those with it have always kept it to themselves and so people aren’t used to heavy information.
Everyone is acting on the echo instead of what causes it.
Humanity in the film was always capable of discovering the secrets to gravity, it would have happened in time eventually. However, due to the Future’s actions with this knowledge, they caused catastrophe in their Past which at Present threatened their own survival; the Future. Humanity would eventually have come into this knowledge but due to events and causes beyond us, humanity ironically, in the film the past ran out of time. We could solved the problem of blight, if it were naturally occurring phenomena, but it was a reactive one, a byproduct of greater forces at play; a hyperspace rupture. The unintended consequences of a future civilization’s, our own civilization’s advances.
The wormhole may have been the Future Civilization’s first attempt. What caused the blight wasn’t anything natural it was the result of advancements made in the future on Earth which rippled across time affecting their past, the film’s present. This catastrophe not only threatened the past but the very existence of the future; the inverse of the plot to Tenet.
To fix their mistake and ensure their own existence not just our own survival, they had to find an alternate means to fix their mistake. The wormhole was the future’s Plan B. Because of Dr. Mann, his hubris and further shortcomings, Cooper inside the tesseract became Plan C. At every step of the way, hubris was the culprit, however this time it was that of our future offspring. Every step in the film is a patch over for a prior, or future, mistake. The future had to stick their existence into a closed loop to ensure its survival. As the film progresses their existence becomes more and more fragile.
And what made humanity in the future try to manipulate gravity on Earth? Because perhaps it was ruined and they thought they could fix it by manipulating gravity and time. This affects the entirety of the local field which includes it’s time and space. In a sense, humanity advanced itself into a closed loop outside of time.
